Summy in LINE

Summy in LINE can do almost everything you can do on the web, without opening a browser. This page gathers what people use most in the chat. If you haven’t used it before, read Meet Summy and Link LINE first.

Private chats and group chats

Private chat: just type. Summy answers every message. It suits your own work, reminders and approval cards.

LINE groups that have the bot in them:

  1. Call the bot first, by @mentioning it or by writing the bot’s call name that your company set in your message (by default, in groups the bot answers only when called).
  2. If the bot has just asked you something, you can reply directly without calling its name again.
  3. Messages that don’t call the bot are kept as context but not answered, so you can say “Summarise what we just discussed”.
  4. If a staff member takes over the conversation in the group, the bot stays quiet until they hand it back.
  5. In a group, Summy knows only the people in your organisation and the people in that group. It will not mention the names or give the email addresses of outsiders who are not in the group, so “invite everyone in the room” means the people actually talking in that group.

Some things can’t be done in a group, or are sent to your private chat instead, such as the buttons for connecting a Microsoft account or a calendar.

Set reminders

  1. Type, for example, “Remind me tomorrow at 2pm to call the customer”.
  2. At that time, Summy sends a reminder back to you in LINE (Thailand time).
  3. If you also want it as a to-do in your list, say “Add a to-do … and remind me”. To-dos with a reminder time remind you as usual.

If an administrator has turned it on, you get a daily summary of open and overdue work in your private chat.

Send pictures and files

  • Send a picture, PDF or file to the bot, then ask about it, e.g. “Summarise this document”.
  • Every file sent into the chat is kept on the sender’s Files page, in the LINE tab.
  • Files sent in a group can be opened by people in that group (who have linked LINE) from the LINE tab on the Files page, but only the sender can rename, move, share or delete them.

Send receipts and claim expenses

  1. Send a photo of the receipt into the chat.
  2. Type what you paid for, e.g. “Client lunch, paid out of pocket”.
  3. Summy reads the amount, shop name, date and receipt number from the photo, asks only for what the photo doesn’t say, then records it as an expense for you.
  4. You can send more photos later and say “Attach to the one I just made”.

If the numbers in the photo are unclear, Summy asks you to confirm instead of guessing. Always check the amount before submitting.

Approve from cards in LINE

If you are an approver, you get a card in your private chat when something is waiting.

  • An expense card has Approve (one tap and done), Ask for info and Reject buttons. The last two type a message for you that starts with the item number, e.g. #12 reject; add your reason after it and send.
  • Approval cards for other things have Approve and Reject / see all, which opens the Approvals page on the web.

Find places, get directions and distances

If your company has turned on Google Maps, you can ask Summy, for example:

  • “Coffee shops nearby that are open now” gives a list of places with rating, number of reviews, whether they’re open, and distance.
  • “How long from Siam to Silom?” gives the distance, travel time and the total time with current traffic. You can choose car, motorbike, walking or transit (BTS/MRT/bus).
  • “What time does this place open? What’s its phone number?”

Results come as a card with Directions and View on map buttons that open the Google Maps app.

Use your location (“from here”)

  1. In the LINE chat, tap + and choose Location to share your location.
  2. Then ask, e.g. “Restaurants around here” or “How many km from here to the office?”

Summy uses the location you shared in that chat within the last 3 hours. If you haven’t shared one, Summy asks you to share it first. The Directions button starts from your phone’s current location. Shared locations are kept for no more than 1 day.

Your company has a daily quota of map searches. If it has run out, or maps haven’t been set up, Summy tells you.

Ask Summy to ask someone else

Administrators can ask from their private chat, e.g. “Ask Tak if they’re free tomorrow”. Summy sends the message in your name (starting with 📨 From …).

  • Asking someone in their private chat: if they reply within 3 days, the reply is sent back to your chat automatically, starting with 💬 … replied, and saying which question it answers. Up to 10 messages are relayed per question, and only to the person who asked.
  • Asking in a group: replies in a group are not relayed back automatically, because anyone in a group can type anything. Check the group yourself.
  • If you ask the same person again, the newest question replaces the earlier one.
  • If Summy says it has forwarded or told someone but didn’t actually send anything, the system catches it and adds the note “This message has not been forwarded to anyone yet” to the end of the answer.

What Summy can’t do in LINE

  • It can’t act for people who haven’t linked LINE. People without an account may be able to exchange a few messages with the bot (if your company allows it), but they see none of the company’s data.
  • Important actions, such as running an automation or changing settings, need you to press confirm on the card yourself; typing “yes” is not enough. See the confirmation card.
  • It can only use features your account has turned on, within your permissions. If Summy says you don’t have permission, see the FAQ.
  • Only administrators can have Summy send messages into other groups on their behalf, and they must ask from their private chat.
